Child's Play Charity
The folks over at Penny Arcade have been doing a charity collection every year for children that I think is extremely cool... They collect money to provide children's hospitals (including Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis) with video games and video game consoles to entertain the seriously ill children they treat. So far they've raised millions of dollars and made many sick children a little happier over the holidays. So please go to:

and donate a little to the cause.

Tivo + Netflix Instant = A Beautiful Thing.
A couple of weeks ago I got my first HDTV, and therefore "had" to upgrade my Tivo from a series2 to a TivoHD. After upgrading, I read an article that Netflix had announced a deal with Tivo to stream all of their instant content to the TivoHD and Tivo Series3 boxes just like it had done with the XBox 360 and Roku player.

I have to say... This service is incredible. Never before have I seen streaming implemented in a way that actually worked! I have a normal DSL connection at home, and my stream so far as always been top quality (I believe 720p) and I haven't had any buffering issues.
The way it works is there is now a "Video On Demand" option on your "Now Playing" menu of your Tivo. From there, you have to pick "Netflix" and authorize your account. Authorizing was very easy since it just tells you to log in to your netflix account on a computer, go to http://www.netflix.com/activate and type in the six digit activation code. That's it! Once you've activated it, you can then see all of the programs that are in your instant queue and select them to watch. It then "retrieves" for about 10 seconds and the show starts streaming.
There are only two downfalls that I've noticed so far. One is that there is no way to add things to your instant queue directly from the tivo itself (You have to log in to netflix.com from your computer and add things). The other is that the selection is kind of lacking. While it has a lot of TV shows that I will enjoy watching it also has some duds (Hercules and Xena, seriously?). There aren't that many blockbusters that have made it to the instant service on Netflix, but I'm hoping that at this time next year I'll be singing the selection's praises as it gets more mainstream.
Last, kudos to Tivo for making this service available for free on their boxes (unlike the Xbox, which requires a Gold Live subscription which is $50-$75 a year). I'll give this service an 8 out of 10 right now, but it could easily fix its few flaws to become something great.

Apparently you can fry anything
Sooo... Here's a list of the 15 most deadly delicacies:
http://www.asylum.com/2008/12/04/deadliest-dishes-15-delicacies-that-might-kill-you/
My personal favorites:

Deep Fried Cherry Coke. Apparently they take funnel-cake batter, mix it with Coke syrup and then deep fry it. This is then followed by a trip to the emergency room to clean out your arteries, finally leading to a trip to the psychologist to find out why the hell you would eat it in the first place.

Chicken Fried Bacon. This is officially the first way to prepare bacon that made me throw up a little in my mouth. That is all.

AT&T gets rid of free Flickr for its customers
Apparently the economy has hit AT&T and Yahoo! just as hard as everyone else. I got this email message today:

Interesting to know... but was I the only one who didn't know that as an AT&T internet subscriber I used to get this perk? All I know is that I pay for a Flickr Pro account, and if they turn mine to be free because of a linked AT&T-Yahoo account I'm going to be an angry man.
